Sharing, Retweeting, Repinning

Happy to share, proud to share, excited to share, glad to RT, had to repin, etc…

If you have picked one of these phrases and use it CONSTANTLY, you are not socially networking, you are being annoying.

If the only thing you do is share, retweet, repin, etc… and never post any of your own content, you are not socially networking, you look like you don’t have any of your own thoughts and ideas.

Online vs. In Person Prospecting

QandAsmallI’ve had many people ask me how online marketing differs from in person marketing.  The short answer…

It doesn’t!

Why would I say that?  Just like in person, when you are using social spaces online to prospect (market your business), you are dealing with real people.  Many people mistakenly think that they should conduct themselves differently online than the do offline.  That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Many times in my trainings, I’ve said “If you wouldn’t say or do it offline, don’t say or do it online”.  The next time you feel the need to scream at everyone you know on social spaces about your wonderful business, STOP!!  THINK!!  Ask yourself…would I do or say this in person?

Shouting about your business online is like jumping on a table in the middle of a party and yelling about your business.  However, if you set up your profile properly, you can be the interesting person who everyone wants to ask about their business.  People will come to you and ask you to tell them more if they like what you’ve set up on your profiles.

This is why a clear, concise, “About Me” statement on your cover photo is so important.  It’s also important that you learn how to properly repost photos so you are not sending people to the sites of other reps when you post them.  There are many, many ways you can go about setting up your profile so when you do go out (on social spaces) and socialize, people will come look to find out who you are and what you do.

Branding Your Business

Branding your business is one of the biggest things people struggle with.  This is something that has plagued entrepreneurs and small businesses forever.  It is especially hard amongst network marketers and affiliate marketers.

Why would that be?

Network marketers and affiliate marketers tend to take on the persona of the company they are representing and forget that they are building their own business.  I see it on social spaces all the time.  Everyone is screaming their company name.  They put up photos of the company ads that everyone else is using.  You always know who people from XYZ company are because they were all on the same conference call and all heard something on that call that resonated with them.  Therefore,  they run to their social spaces and all post the same blurb or quote or announcement.

As a prospect, if you are friends with more than one person from the same company (which you most likely are because they all tend to run in the same circles and add each others friends) then you see the same photos and status updates over and over.   One of the hardest things for us to do is put ourselves in the shoes of the prospect.

I was thinking of trying a product from a certain company recently.  But…how do I go about figuring out which of the 50 or so distributors of the company I want to buy from?  They all bombard my newsfeed daily on facebook.  But…if they didn’t bombard my newsfeed, would I know who they are?

What is a good “happy medium”?  How do you go about promoting your business, letting people know what you do and letting people get to know you as a person instead of as a business?

I’ve Been Watching You

I spent a few hours today with one of my Elite Coaching Clients.  During these sessions, I generally hook to my client’s computer and walk her through exactly where to go, what to day and what to do on social spaces.  We also look at what others are doing and find examples of what is NOT working.

Today we found quite a few of you on facebook.  We looked at your status updates and looked at the interaction you are getting.

I was shocked at how many of you are STILL spinning your wheels and trying to work on facebook.  You are posting  quotes and business pitches and cutesy photos.  But…the only ones who are “liking” and commenting on your status updates are others who are in your business.  You have no prospects interacting with you.  You have no “real” people interacting with you.

While it’s nice to keep in touch with those in your business and it’s nice that they like your stuff, that does NOT make you any money!!  That means you are just existing on facebook, but it’s doing you absolutely NO GOOD.

Why?  Why are you still spinning your wheels when everything you’ve done up to this point has been unsuccessful?  Why are you wasting your time?
