Why Most Network Marketers Fail

There is a very high failure rate among those in network marketing/MLM.

One of the biggest reasons I see for failure is the “I can’t afford it” syndrome.

The average cost to join an MLM company is $500.  The average monthly product requirement is $100.  So, by month three, the average network marketer has invested $700 into his/her business.  At that point, they have exhausted their warm market.  This is the point where most people give up and quit. 

They claim they have invested too much money so far and “can’t afford” to invest any more into learning how to properly market their business beyond their warm market.


If anyone seriously thinks they can start a business for $700, not market it properly, and make it a success, they are nuts.

We need to stop marketing MLMs to people who do not have the resources to make it into a successful business.  This is why network marketers get such a bad name.  People who are building a business lie to their prospects and tell them it’s easy.  They tell them that they can “fire your boss tomorrow” among other things.

Are you ready to stop lying and learn how to attract those who can afford to build a business?  If you won’t put money out to make your business successful, don’t expect those you bring in to do it either.  You really can’t afford to NOT spend money on your business.  Your return on investment – IF YOU IMPLEMENT WHAT YOU LEARN – will be huge if you go to the right person to learn.


Stop Making Excuses and Get to Work

The Economy Sucks!!

Honestly I’m so sick and tired of having people blame the economy for their lack of effort in building their business.

Seriously…NASCAR racing season is going to be ending soon.  Have you seen the people in the stands this year?  Every time I watch a race, the stands are full of people and there are all kinds of RVs parked there for the weekend.  Do you have any idea what people pay for tickets to these races?  The AVERAGE cost of a nascar ticket is $88.  Even if the stands aren’t completely full, there are a LOT of people spending $88 each to attend a race.

Football season is starting.  The average cost of a ticket to a football game is $75.  Next time you are watching a game, look at the stands and see all of the people spending $75 each to attend that game.

So many people eat out these days.  I am actually amazed at the number of women who don’t cook.  Depending on where you live, you are spending an average of $50 or more for dinner for a family of four.  EVERY DAY!!

The average family spends $75 a month on cable television.  How does cable television help you make money?

The average network marketer spends $500 to get started, $100/month on products and $2,000 or more on training (where the majority of them learn ineffective marketing methods).  The average network marketer does not even make enough money to pay for their products.

What can we learn from all of these statistics?

People spend money on things they WANT.  They spend money on things they perceive will make their lives easier or better.

So…in the words of Tom “Big Al” Schreiter…”If building your business was a crime, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

You said in a previous answer that the average network marketer sponsors 2.5 people and it’s because many sponsor no one. Why is that? Why is there so many people who sign up and do nothing?

Hi Discouraged,

Great question. In this industry, the only way for it to work for the company and the big income earners is if there are a large number who do nothing but buy products each month. Many companies are not set up to be “customer friendly” so people have to join to get the “good prices”.

The majority of people who do bring others in don’t really know how they got those people to sign up. Then, they, as the upline, attempt to teach their people how to sponsor others. However, most times, they are teaching ineffective marketing methods. Occasionally, those ineffective methods work to bring in one or two people so those one or two get taught the same ineffective marketing methods and so forth. This is why most just give up and keep buying the products. Most MLM companies have great products.

However, if people are taught how to attract people the right way, that average would be much higher.

Overcoming Objections & Making A Profit in Your Business

QandAsmallThe following two questions and answers are compilations of questions I received from many of you.  These are the two most popular questions I’ve received so I’ve decided to answer both of them today. 

Q: I’ve looked at your courses on the left side of your blog and I don’t see anywhere that you teach “Overcoming Objections”.  Why is that? 

A: I teach attraction marketing.  Therefore, you will never have to overcome objections because you will not get objections.  Those who want what you are offering will come to you.  You don’t have to go out and “pitch” anyone.


Q: How long does it take the average network marketer to begin making a profit?

A: You are not going to like my answer on this one.

The average network marketer sponsors 2.5 people.  A very high percentage sponsor no one.  Therefore, the average person in MLM will not make any money.

It’s very easy to get discouraged when so many people are teaching ineffective marketing methods.  They teach their people what they were taught and so on.  This is what leads to very high attrition rates in our industry.

This is why it’s so very important to learn the right way to market your business.

Happy Independence Day

Tomorrow is Independence day in the US.  July 4th.  I’ve been thinking a lot this past week about independence and what it means to me.  I am so blessed to be an entrepreneur.  What does that mean?  It means FREEDOM.  I work around my schedule, not someone else’s.  Oh sure…I have deadlines and certain times that clients need things done, but, for the most part, I am on MY schedule.  I live in a house on the bay and can take time to enjoy sitting out on the deck looking at the water.  As a matter of fact, that’s where I’m sitting as I write this newsletter to you.  My kids have had the good fortune to have mom home with them almost all of their lives.  They spent a few years in daycare and at sitters while I went to a J.O.B. but for the most part, I’ve been here for them and their friends while they were growing up.  Being and entrepreneur has allowed me to homeschool.  It has allowed me to be here for my husband when he comes home from work every day.  It has allowed me to be a second mom to most of the kids’ friends.

I’ve done a few different things over the years, but for the most part, I’ve been a network marketer, business coach and life coach.  When I was growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher.  I let friends and family talk me out of it.   They said that teachers don’t make a lot of money.  They talked me into going to school for accounting.  LOL.  Those of you who know me well know that I would much rather be talking and interacting with PEOPLE than sitting in front of a computer working with numbers all day.  Don’t get me wront – I LOVE working on the computer.  I have that “computer geek” side to me.  I just love interacting with people while I’m doing it.  That’s why I’m starting another book club and teaching an internet marketing course.  I get to interact with and teach people.

What did you want to be when you grew up?  Are you doing that?  Or did someone talk you out of it?

I was reading somewhere the other day about a guy who was told he could make money doing what he loves to do.  His passion was making toothpick models.  He had no idea how he could make a living doing that, but he started taking pictures of them and getting the word out.  Now people are paying hundreds to thousands of dollars for him to make custom toothpick models.  There’s another guy who was on Oprah who loved blowing bubbles.  You know…the soap bubbles with wands like the kids love…anyway…he is now traveling the world and getting paid to put on shows where he stands in a kiddie pool filled with soapy water and a huge wand and encases himself inside a bubble (among other things).  This just proves that you CAN do whatever you love AND make a living at it.  I am doing what I love.  Are you??
