How Dare you, Phil Robertson…

PhilRobertsonHere are my thoughts on the whole Phil Robertson interview thing.

OH…MY…GOSH!!!

An actor has an opinion.  WOW…who woulda thunk it?

A&E is all up in arms over his statements.  But…doesn’t he have a right to make them?  We don’t have to agree with the statements.  We don’t have to even watch Duck Dynasty if that’s what we decide.

Let Phil stay on the show.  Let the public decide if they want to watch or not.  But…when networks start censoring what actors can and can not say, they end up being the “bad guy”.

All they needed to do is put a disclaimer at the beginning of Duck Dynasty saying “The views of this show or it’s actors are not necessarily the views of A&E”.  Done…  no big fuss.

It’s been said there is no such thing as bad press.  I have to disagree in this case.  I think this is a huge negative on A&E.  Probably a good thing for Duck Dynasty and Phil Robertson, though.

Now…with that said…

I am a Christian and I don’t agree with Phil.

OUCH…WAIT…don’t throw the rotten tomatoes yet!!

As Christians, we are to strive to be “Christ like”.  I honestly don’t believe that Jesus would spew hatred toward ANYONE.  I have many friends who are GLBT and I couldn’t imagine being hateful toward any of them based on their sexual or lifestyle preference.  That’s crazy.

Now…let’s say that I believe being gay is a sin.  The Bible tells us not to judge.  It also says that there are no “degrees” of sin.  There is no sin better or worse than another.  It also says “We have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”.  Not some of us.  Not most of us.  ALL of us.  So…if there is no degree of sin, and we are not supposed to judge, why should a Christian spew hatred toward anyone for their lifestyle?  Or anything else for that matter.

Let’s band together as Christians and show “sinners” (again…EVERYONE including us) that we are not the hypocritical, judgmental, horse’s ass that many Christians are being on this matter.

Feel free to comment below, however, know that if you can’t disagree without attacking me or other commenters, your comments won’t make it through moderation.  I love a good debate, but not one where anyone is mean, hateful and attacks others.  This is NOT a “free speech” community, it’s MY blog.  😉

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

The great Christian debate….Should we say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

This, by the way, is absolutely RIDICULOUS.  Here’s why:

OK…I’ll be honest…it really irks me when someone writes Merry X-mas.  Christ is the reason for Christmas so please do not X Him out.  Christmas is a day set aside for us to honor and celebrate His birth, even though Christmas has become highly commercialized in recent years.

Does that mean people who do not share my religious views CAN’T celebrate Christmas?  Absolutely not!!

As Christians, we are supposed to be Christ like.  Do you honestly believe that Jesus would be arguing with people over whether they say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?  This is supposed to be a time of love, friendship, caring, joy, etc…  How can we claim to love others if we get mad at them for saying Happy Holidays?  We are not supposed to shove our religion down the throats of others.  “They will know me by my fruit”.  How are others supposed to look at many Christians and say “I want to be like them” when they are judgmental, negative and nitpicky?  Yes…I said nitpicky.

In the United States, we have freedom of religion.  If more of us just focus on being a good, loving person and focus on doing what Jesus would do instead of focusing on finding the flaws in others, the world would be a much better place.  Maybe more people would see us and say “Hey…those people who love God are really nice, happy people.  I want to know more”.  NO ONE is going to want to know how to be a judgmental, negative, nitpicky person.

Who cares whether you say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?  As long as everyone is getting along and wishing others well, we should be happy.  Christians should strive to be the better person.  They should strive to be like our Lord and Savior.  In my opinion, that has somehow become lost in the shuffle of Christians attempting to claim we are better than everyone else and then trying to shove that down everyone else’s throat.

Think of it this way…what if I won the lottery and I decided to throw you a birthday party.  I rent a HUGE hall and put out a public invitation for everyone to come celebrate your birthday.  Among the guests are quite a few people who don’t even know you and a few people who know you but don’t like you.  They are there dancing, singing, visiting and having a great time.  How would you feel if one of your friends went to all of these people and told them to leave because they either don’t know you or don’t like you.  When they insisted they are just there having fun and not hurting anyone, your friend got even more vocal and began screaming at them to leave your birthday party.  How would that make you feel?

I’m sure Jesus feels just as horrible when He sees Christians arguing over whether people should say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays.  Just be happy and show others the true joy of the holiday by being Christ like.  Try it.  You might like it.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. What will you do with it?

Where Does God Fit Into the Law of Attraction

I talk a lot about the Law of Attraction. Some people have asked me where does God and Christianity fit into the Law of Attraction?

Here are my thoughts:

The Law of Attraction is simply faith in the Lord. When people talk about “putting what you want out to the universe”, I know that means Jesus. The Lord IS my universe. If you are offended by my beliefs, that’s ok. It’s your prerogative – we are all entitled to our own beliefs. If you’re not offended, read on.

The bible tells us:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 6:33)

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
(Matthew 7:7-8)

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it (emphasis added by RG), and it will be yours.
(Mark 11:24)

The Lord created the universe. If He can do that, imagine what He can do in our lives.

Joel Osteen tells us in his book

Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential

that we need to STOP LIMITING GOD. He can make a way when there is no way. He can open doors that seem locked forever. Jesus said “If you believe, all things are possible”.

Where does God fit into the Law of Attraction? God IS the Law of Attraction. There are numerous references to it in the bible.

Make it a great day!!
