How Dare you, Phil Robertson…

PhilRobertsonHere are my thoughts on the whole Phil Robertson interview thing.

An actor has an opinion.  WOW…who woulda thunk it?

A&E is all up in arms over his statements.  But…doesn’t he have a right to make them?  We don’t have to agree with the statements.  We don’t have to even watch Duck Dynasty if that’s what we decide.

Let Phil stay on the show.  Let the public decide if they want to watch or not.  But…when networks start censoring what actors can and can not say, they end up being the “bad guy”.

All they needed to do is put a disclaimer at the beginning of Duck Dynasty saying “The views of this show or it’s actors are not necessarily the views of A&E”.  Done…  no big fuss.

It’s been said there is no such thing as bad press.  I have to disagree in this case.  I think this is a huge negative on A&E.  Probably a good thing for Duck Dynasty and Phil Robertson, though.

Now…with that said…

I am a Christian and I don’t agree with Phil.

OUCH…WAIT…don’t throw the rotten tomatoes yet!!

As Christians, we are to strive to be “Christ like”.  I honestly don’t believe that Jesus would spew hatred toward ANYONE.  I have many friends who are GLBT and I couldn’t imagine being hateful toward any of them based on their sexual or lifestyle preference.  That’s crazy.

Now…let’s say that I believe being gay is a sin.  The Bible tells us not to judge.  It also says that there are no “degrees” of sin.  There is no sin better or worse than another.  It also says “We have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”.  Not some of us.  Not most of us.  ALL of us.  So…if there is no degree of sin, and we are not supposed to judge, why should a Christian spew hatred toward anyone for their lifestyle?  Or anything else for that matter.

Let’s band together as Christians and show “sinners” (again…EVERYONE including us) that we are not the hypocritical, judgmental, horse’s ass that many Christians are being on this matter.

Feel free to comment below, however, know that if you can’t disagree without attacking me or other commenters, your comments won’t make it through moderation.  I love a good debate, but not one where anyone is mean, hateful and attacks others.  This is NOT a “free speech” community, it’s MY blog.  😉

Christianity and Homosexuality

I am a happily married woman.  Married to a wonderful man for the past 10 years.  We’ve been together for 13 years.

I am also a Christian.  I love the Lord.  He is my savior, my father, my friend.

So…why does it upset me so much when people (especially fellow Christians) bash homosexuals?  Doesn’t the bible say that homosexuality is wrong?

Here’s my take on this.  The bible also says in Romans 3:23 that we have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  ALL…not some, not most, not many…ALL.  We are all sinners.  The bible also says in Matthew 7:1 that we are not to judge others.

So…if we are not to judge and we are all sinners, how can a Christian judge a homosexual?  How can a Christian make a determination that one sin is worse than another?  Didn’t Jesus love EVERYONE?  Aren’t we supposed to be Christ like?

NY state recently passed a law that same sex couples can marry.  There is a HUGE controversy over that here.  I watch the social networks and see what is being said by others about homosexuals.  It’s scary to think that some of these people profess to be Christians.  (See…I did it…I judged them…I’m not perfect and do not profess to be.  I try, but it’s not always easy.)  They are out there calling people names and telling them they are going to hell and all kinds of things.  They are NOT doing it in a loving manner.  They are being downright mean, rude and sometimes disgusting.  Calling homosexual people pedophiles (which, by the way, is the most ridiculous thing I’ve EVER heard)  And the reactions?  I think one I read the other day sums it up best.

“Why would anyone want to follow a God who teaches you to have such disgust and HATE toward others?”

THAT is what non-Christians think when they hear those who profess to be Christians slamming others.  If we, as followers of Christ, ever want others to take us seriously, we need to strive to be more like Him.  Can you REALLY imagine Jesus coming back to Earth and bashing gays?  Can you really imagine Jesus coming back to Earth and telling all gays they are banned to hell for eternity? Can you really imagine Jesus coming back to Earth and calling all of the homosexuals pedophiles and sexual predators?  Really?  Seriously?  I think not.  At least the Jesus I know would not do that.  He loves everyone.

John 3:16 – (the first verse I ever memorized when I was very little)  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

HHMMM…For God so loved the world.  The world.  Not For God so loved heterosexuals.  Not For God so loved certain people.  For God so loved the world.  God loved EVERYONE so much that he allowed His son to die on the cross so our sins would be forgiven.  And remember…we have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

The bible also tells us that we must follow the law of the land.  Here in NY state, it is now a law that same sex couples have the right to be married.  Since that law was passed, many town clerks are refusing to sign the marriage certificates for same sex couples because they are under the false impression that it goes against their religion to do so.  But…in reality, they are going against God’s instructions in Romans 13:1-7.

When they sign a marriage license, all they are attesting to is the fact that it is legal for these two people to marry.  They are not saying “These two people are gay and I want to be just like them”.  They are not saying “These two people are gay and I condone their marriage”.  They are not saying “These two people are gay and I want to be gay with them”.  They are simply stating that BY LAW (which God tells us to follow) these two people have the right to get married.   Their signature does not condone the marriage.

Some town clerks are asking their deputy clerks to sign the certificates if they refuse to do it.  That’s like saying “I want to kill Bob, but God says that is wrong and you aren’t a Christian, so, you kill him for me” (if they truly believe signing the certificate is a sin).

I am proud to be a Christian and proud to say that I love all people no matter what their sexual orientation may be.  I may not condone or even want their lifestyle, but I refuse to condemn them or judge them. They are all children of God just like me!!

Anger, Hatred & Name Calling Only Hurts YOU

I am saddened by all of the anger and animosity I see being spewed around the internet.  I think the worst part is that these angry, hurtful, nasty things are being spread by so-called Christians.  Do we need to be aware of what’s going on in the world?  Yes.  Do we need to post horrible name calling nastiness about someone who we THINK isn’t doing a good job?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!!  My God teaches me to love my enemies.  My God teaches me that no matter what happens, I am His child and I will be OK.

It saddens me to see people claiming to be a child of God and then getting all caught up in name calling and rumor spreading.  It saddens me to see people claiming to be a child of God and then harboring such animosity for others that they are probably making themselves sick.   Then they use God as an excuse.  “Well…I felt God led me to speak up because if I don’t no one will.”  I’m sorry, but God would NEVER lead you to name calling and spreading rumors.  God would not tell you to be nasty toward another human being.  That is not how He works.  If you are a believer in the bible and our creator, you know that you will always be protected and OK.

I really don’t want to make this a religious post.  It’s more of an awareness post to let those who are being nasty and calling names to others that it will only end up hurting you in the long run.  We will never agree 100% with everyone. Just because someone does something you do not like does not mean you have to let it control your life. Anger and hatred will destroy YOU if you hold on to them. They don’t hurt the other person, they hurt you.

Where Does God Fit Into the Law of Attraction

I talk a lot about the Law of Attraction. Some people have asked me where does God and Christianity fit into the Law of Attraction?

Here are my thoughts:

The Law of Attraction is simply faith in the Lord. When people talk about “putting what you want out to the universe”, I know that means Jesus. The Lord IS my universe. If you are offended by my beliefs, that’s ok. It’s your prerogative – we are all entitled to our own beliefs. If you’re not offended, read on.

The bible tells us:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 6:33)

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
(Matthew 7:7-8)

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it (emphasis added by RG), and it will be yours.
(Mark 11:24)

The Lord created the universe. If He can do that, imagine what He can do in our lives.

Joel Osteen tells us in his book

Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential

that we need to STOP LIMITING GOD. He can make a way when there is no way. He can open doors that seem locked forever. Jesus said “If you believe, all things are possible”.

Where does God fit into the Law of Attraction? God IS the Law of Attraction. There are numerous references to it in the bible.

Make it a great day!!

I am SICK of People Quoting the Bible for Their Own Agenda

This is sickening and has got to stop. This post is NOT a political or religious post. It is a TRUTH post. There are so many so-called Christians out there who think they are slinging the truth around the internet, however, they are NOT. They are being duped by idiot originators of emails.

First of all – I am a Christian. Second, I am not even sure anymore which political party I want to belong to. All political parties have taken to slander and mud slinging and none are credible in my eyes. Sadly, most of that is not due to the politicians themselves, it’s due to the mud slinging American public. GROW UP!!!

With that said, I am a believer of the TRUTH. If you are going to spread things around, try spreading the TRUTH.

Here’s an email I received today:

Subject: Obama and the Crotch Salute

John 15;13

Folks, what you are about to see is truly disgusting. There really are no words to describe this scenerio.

Check out this latest picture from Veterans Day Ceremony, 11/11/09, Arlington National Cemetery. It may be the National Anthem or the Flag being presented, but EVERYBODY in the picture is either saluting or has his hand over the HEART … except ONE.

I’m sorry folks, but is this the turkey that was elected President of our country? You know, the United States of America ? I do believe that saluting the flag goes with that, and also to honor the servicemen who died, or is he above that? Shower us all with flowery words and dazzle us with B.S. But actions speak louder. This stinks.

The writer of the email got hold of this picture from somewhere. Maybe (s)he was at the ceremony, or maybe (s)he took a still from a video. It does not matter. It clearly shows everyone with their hand on their heart, EXCEPT our President. Should we be appalled??

How about this picture:

This one is clearly from a different angle, a different camera, but is clearly the same ceremony. But….WHAT??? President Obama is the ONLY one with his hand over his heart?? How dare these other idiots not either salute or put their hands over their hearts when they clearly should be??? HOW DARE THEY????

Now, the TRUTH……..

The two photos above were taken at the 2009 Memorial Day Observance at Arlington National Cemetery. At the bottom of this post, I have included the original video footage so you can see for yourself. The first photo was just as President Obama was being introduced and they were saluting HIM (11:31 on the video). The second photo was a few minutes later (13:28 on the video) when our President was the FIRST to put his hand to his heart after the announcement that the National Anthem would be sung. Then a split second later, everyone else followed suit.

See how the TRUTH can be twisted??

If you are at all interested in the TRUTH, take a mere 14 minutes out of your day and watch the first 14 minutes of the video below and find out for yourself.

STOP THE MADNESS and stop forwarding and reposting every idiotic thing that comes into your email or social networking account. Go find the TRUTH first. Whatever that truth may be.
