I Almost Forgot an Important Birthday

HI - Nice to see you again. Have you sent any greeting cards recently?

custom greeting cards

Yesterday I went into panic mode.  I looked to the week ahead in my planner and realized that my sister in law’s birthday is the 16th.  I had no time to run out and search through cards in the store as I had a call scheduled in 15 minutes.  Even if I could make it to the store and back, I didn’t want to run in quick and grab the first card I saw.  That’s not very personal.

I was saved.  I went to my Send Out Cards website and searched through the cards for one that I thought she would like.  I personalized it with my own handwriting, signed mine and my husband’s names with the signatures I previously had uploaded to the site, and clicked the send button.  I updated her birthday in her contact card so the system will now remind me that her birthday is coming up.

VOILA!!! Send Out Cards saved the day again!!  I checked the status this morning – the card was printed, put in an envelope and stamped yesterday and accepted at the post office this morning.  It will get to her by her birthday!!

I don’t know how many times birthdays, anniversaries, thank you, congratulations, and other occasions have slipped by because I’ve either not had the time to go to the store and stand there searching through the cards or by the time I did get to the store, I forgot to pick up the card.  Now that will never happen again!!  All I need to do is go to my home computer, pick a card, personalize it and click send.  And, the best part is that if I need to, I can send a gift along with the card.  It doesn’t get much better than that.

And yes – I loved the service so much that I became an affiliate!!  Contact me for a free account so you can send a couple free cards and see how easy it is.   You’ll fall in love too!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I’m going to keep this short.

I don’t do this very often, but today I am going to.  My mother in law is going in for surgery tomorrow (Monday Dec. 7) and I would like prayers from those of you who do pray.

This is a high risk surgery.  My husband left yesterday for NY and will be there for the duration of her surgery.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  I would appreciate it.

I am amazed at all of the people who would rather join some scam than a legitimate business.  You’ve seen the ads.

“Sign up, do nothing and get rich”

“We do all of the work for you”

“Join today for just $199 and we’ll build your business for you”

“Free to join – make money while you sit home and do nothing”

I can’t believe that people are still falling for these things, but they are.  I have a couple friends who keep signing up with the next “deal” and the next one.  They have wasted so much money and time it’s unbelievable.  HELLO???  Why do people fall for these things?  Why can’t they realize that if you are doing nothing, these scams wouldn’t need you.

Why would they need you to pay any amount if they are going to build your business for you?  Why wouldn’t they just build businesses for themselves?  Because they need your money in order for them to make money.  Then you get to go spout the same false promises to the next people.

If you are paying nothing and everyone who gets involved is paying nothing, where the heck does the money come from?  You have to be selling something.  That is the only way it works.  If you are selling something, you are doing something.

Wake up – there is no such thing as get rich quick.  You can not sit on your butt and do nothing and make money.  It doesn’t work that way.  The only ones making money are the ones who scammed you into the deal.  And then you have to scam others in by telling them the same lies that were told to you.

A real home based business WILL require start up costs and it will require work.  If anyone tells you different, they are lying to you!!  I get so upset when I see my friends falling for this garbage.  I get upset when I see them struggling for YEARS and know that if they had just put some time and effort into a real, legitimate opportunity, they could be making a pretty descent income by now.  All of that time and money have been wasted.  That is sad.

The Dog and the Pillow

Our canine family began with Zeus – our shepherd/lab mix – 14 years ago.
Zeus

Then, almost 11 years ago, we got our lovable black lab, Brutus.

About a year or two later, we got Sandy. Sandy was our only house dog. She was our “pretty girl”.
Sandy

In 2008, we had Zeus put to sleep.  He was starting to get mean and nasty after 13 years.   I guess I can’t blame him – he was 91 in dog years.  His hips and legs were getting bad and it got to the point where he has more bad days than good.  He was such a HUGE part of our lives that it was like a part of every one of us went with him.

Almost a year ago, Sandy got hit by a car.  We moved way out to the country and our house sat 6 tenths of a mile off the road.  We thought the dogs would be happier with the freedom out there.  We shared a driveway with the neighbor – the only 2 houses back there.  The neighbor was coming home one day last February.  Sandy ran in front of her and was killed instantly.  We miss our little girl so much.

For a while, we had two of my friend’s dogs staying with us.  Sierra & Logan.  We loved them like part of the family.  Unfortunately, when we moved into town, we could only bring one dog with us.  We gave Sierra & Logan back to my friend and brought Brutus with us.

Brutus is a 135 pound black lab.  When he was a baby, he had parvo.  Turns out the neighbors’ dog was a carrier of it and Brutus got it somehow.  The vet said that if he made it through the parvo, his digestive system would never work properly and he would never grow to be very big.  She said we should just put him to sleep.  HA!! A lot they know.  He’s grown just fine.

About 8 years ago, he got heartworm (again – the neighbors’ dog was a carrier) and had to have pesticides injected into him to kill the heartworm.  The vet said he would be sick for about a month.  HA!! He was sick for about 3 – 4 days.

Well…now that Brutus is an “only dog” he’s getting spoiled.  He comes in the garage at night and my husband even carpeted an area for him to sleep.  That’s not all.  I guess he figures because he’s been through so much in his life, he deserves to have special comforts.  There was an old couch pillow in a box in the garage.  Brutus adopted it as his own.  Now he can’t sleep without it.  A dog that uses a pillow!!  What is next?  LOL

Brutus will be 77 in dog years in April 2010.  He’s now getting a gray beard to match his master.
