Some Battles Just Aren’t Worth Fighting

HI - Nice to see you again. Have you sent any greeting cards recently?

custom greeting cards

Sometimes we come up against what we perceive to be obstacles or injustices in our lives.  That happened to me yesterday.  However, most of the time, these obstacles or injustices end up being a good thing.

It’s easy to get blinded by the hurt we feel when we’ve been wronged by someone.  I was blinded yesterday and posted a post that in my mind was defending myself against what this person had done to me. (I have since removed that post because this battle isn’t worth fighting. The truth will win out.)  In reality, it just gave his faithful followers fuel to call me the bad guy and gave those who have the good fortune to see the cracks in his armor the courage to pick up the phone and call.  The latter was a good thing.  I realized that I have many more supporters and friends than those who actually believe this person.

Thank you to those of you who have sent emails and made calls of support.   I appreciate you!!

A House Full of Kids

I’m going to miss this soon. My house is FILLED with teenagers. I love having kids in and out. My baby girl (17 yrs. old) is moving back to NY soon and my son (18 yrs. old) is going to be out on his own soon. I have no idea what I will do with an empty house. Soon it will be just my husband and I.

The kids and I were talking the other day and I told them that they need to give me at least a 5 year reprieve before either of them makes me a grandma. But…I think I’m going through empty nest syndrome now just thinking about them being gone. You get used to a certain situation in your life and then one day, it’s just not the same anymore. For over 18 years I’ve been a mom. It seems that since even before the kids started school my house has been filled with them and all of their friends. When I walk through the store and hear “MOM” it’s usually directed at me. People must think I’m a baby making factory. Kids of all color, size and looks are hollering “MOM” at me. One time we were pulling out of Walmart parking lot and I heard the yell – MOM!! I looked around and a car full of kids were yelling and waving out the window. And we’ve only lived in KY for 2 1/2 years. I guess it’s because I’m always here. Even kids who are in NY still call me mom and call me for advice at times. I will always be a mom, but my kids won’t always be right here in my home like they are now.

There’s a country song called “You’re Gonna Miss This” and that sums up how I have been feeling lately. I’m gonna miss this.

Have any of you gone through empty nest syndrome and how did you deal with it?

Can’t I just ground them for life and keep them here forever? Probably not, huh?!

Thankful Turkey Day

I am so thankful today. Holidays are my favorite.

I am so proud of my kids today. Maybe it’s because they are almost adults or maybe it’s just because they know how important holidays are to me. Either way, it doesn’t matter. My daughter came up and helped me get dinner finished and on the table. I have not heard my son even once today beg for something that he knows I will refuse to do (like rides to his girlfriend’s house or something) and I have not once heard his music blaring from his bedroom!!

I love days like this. It has been such a calm, peaceful day. Everyone loved dinner and everyone got along. I’m so thankful for my family and for days like this!!
