HI - Nice to see you again. Have you sent any greeting cards recently?

custom greeting cards

I am appalled at some of the young people who are the future of our country. My daughter (17) and I went to Walmart the other day. Now, understand, I hate going in Walmart to begin with. It’s always crowded and don’t get me started on the newest “Great Value” white boxes all over the shelves.

Anyway…we got a few things and made our way to one of the only four checkouts that were open. After quite a long wait, it was finally our turn to check out. The young girl at the cash register rang up the groceries and the total was $36.23. Without really thinking about it, I handed her $41.25. Two twenties, a one and a quarter. She looked at the money in her hand for a few seconds and then looked at the cash register with a puzzled look on her face.

She then did the one thing that gave her away as someone who doesn’t have a clue…she tried to hand me back the dollar and the quarter and said “It only came to $36.23.” OMG!!! My jaw dropped and I said “Trust me. Punch 41.25 into the register. Everything will work out just fine.” She did and VOILA!! the register told her to give me $5.02 back. She then said…wait for it…are you ready…this was the next thing that told me she didn’t have a clue…

“I still don’t understand why you gave me $41.25″

What in the world do they teach in school these days???? THIS is why I homeschool my kids. No…I take that back…here’s one more “what the he** is wrong with the schools these days?” story:

In 2007 we moved from upstate NY to KY. We enrolled my daughter in school. We were given a day and time to show up at the school and get her schedule. The seniors were passing out the schedules. My daughter’s last name is Spears. She told the girl her name and the girl thumbed through the schedules. She then looked up at us and asked…wait for it…(this one didn’t have a clue either)…

“Does Spears come before or after Smith?”

My daughter and I both looked at each other and (with scared looks on our faces) said “after”. When we got outside we both burst out laughing. K then said to me “Well, Mom, we are in Kentucky now. Maybe Spears comes before Smith here.” and we laughed some more. Every once in a while, when we witness someone doing something…um…less than smart…we say (complete with our fake southern accents) “Does Spears come before or after Smith?”

It took just a few short months for us to realize that public school is not where my daughter needed to be. Both of my kids were reading on a college level at 15 & 16. My son took the GED pretest recently because he was considering getting his GED. The examiner told him that he scored higher on his pretest than he had seen in all of his years as an examiner.

What in the world is wrong with our schools? These kids are the future of our country. And no – it’s not just KY. Kids in NY are the same way. A friend of my son emailed me the other day and I replied “I can’t understand half of what you wrote. I don’t understand you kids’ shorthand so can you use real words?” He called and said he was using real words. I asked him to spell a few words like “address” and “what” and “where”. HE COULDN’T SPELL THEM!!!! He graduated from the public school system this year.

HELP!!! What are they teaching in school?

Opinions on Nintendo Wii

Hello blog readers!!

I need your opinions.  For those of you who have a Nintendo Wii and Wii Fit – I’m thinking of getting one.

I don’t know if I can justify spending that much money on a game system though.  If you have a Wii, do you think that it is worth it?  I don’t want to go weed through a bunch of reviews that were probably paid for anyway.  I’d much rather hear from my blog readers who may have one and can give me their honest opinion.

If you don’t have a Wii Fit and just have a Wii, do you think that other games will give you a good workout as well?  I’m mainly looking for a fun way to lose more weight at home.

Leave me a comment with your thoughts.  Thanks for your feedback!!

Roxanne

I Did Not Want to Do This

I swore to myself that I would not talk politics on my blog. HOWEVER…This Presidential race is getting ridiculous.

On my myspace profile, I titled this:

This is not a Pro-Obama post, but an Anti-Stupidity post

When you go in to vote next week, vote based on FACTS and not on mudslinging lies.

I’ve heard two stories over and over again in emails and in person recently.

========================================

Story #1 – Barack Obama wants to change the flag because he changed the flag on his plane.
http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_obama_replace_the_us_flag_on.html
and
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/airplane.asp

The flag originally on his plane was the North American Airlines LOGO – once he became a Presidential candidate, he could no longer use their logo. He replaced the tail flag with his logo and replaced the North American Logo with the American flag by the plane numbers.

=========================================

Story #2 – Obama wants to change the National Anthem

BS again – here are two links to the REAL story.

http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_obama_say_the_national_anthem_conveys.html

and
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/stance.asp

This was a new columnists attempt at a joke. To quote FactCheck. org

“the joke is the message falsely quoting Obama, and it’s on whomever is gullible enough to believe it’s true.”

==========================================

There are quite a few people whom I USED TO consider to be pretty smart people that are spreading these lies and more. We are NOT going to become a socialist nation if one individual gets to be president. Haven’t people ever heard of impeachment and checks and balances???? Go back to elementary school. We are a democracy and always will be.

I don’t give a hoot WHO you vote for. Just make sure on election day you are making and INFORMED and EDUCATED decision. Don’t make it based on crap being spread around in emails and on the internet. Go do the research yourself. FactCheck. org and Snopes. com are two unbiased sites that simply report the facts and have been doing that for a long time. Go there and get the real stories. THEN make a decision. Stop being a blind follower. If you are reading this, you have internet access. There is NO REASON for you to not do a little research and find out the TRUTH about both candidates. Grow up and be adult and stop the mudslinging. We get enough of that from the candidates who want to run our country.

If Obama gets elected, you can thank all of the McCain supporters who are slandering Obama. This is the year 2008 and anyone with a computer can look up the FACTS for themselves and see that McCain and his supporters are lying. THAT is why he’s losing in the poles. That is why I have no idea if I can stomach voting for a man who will not even think twice before he stands up in front of God and the whole country and LIES about his opponent.

This is surely one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. BUT, my decision will be based on FACTS, NOT LIES. Please let yours be too.

If the slander keeps up, thank everyone passing along this junk. They, along with McCain and Palin, will be the reason Obama becomes the next president of the United States.

I will get off my soap box now.

The Saga Continues

See part one of It Looks Like We May Be Moving Again

Now we continue with part two.

The landlord showed up Tuesday to see if she can paint the bedroom. IMAGINE THAT!! She was supposed to be here the first Thursday or Friday that we were here. Then she was supposed to be here last Thursday or Friday. I reminded her of that. I told her that we moved everything back into the bedroom and we aren’t moving it again. I asked her why she didn’t show up the last two times we had paining scheduled and she said that she thought I would call her again last week to “invite her over to paint” I said “But I called you on Tuesday and told you that you can come Thursday or Friday”. she said “Well I thought you would call again”. I asked why she didn’t paint that first week we moved in and didn’t call or anything to say she wouldn’t be over and she said “That was over a month ago, Roxanne. I can’t reach that far back in my memory to remember why I didn’t show up”. OMG!!!

Then I told her that I don’t like having my dogs tied up. She said “Why are they tied up? I thought you were going to put up a fence”. I said “You told me we could fence in the back yard, but when my husband and I came over a couple days before we moved in you said that your husband doesn’t want us fencing in the back yard.” She said “Roxanne I don’t think I said that. I don’t remember saying that”. When I told my husband she said that he was flabbergasted because he also clearly remembers her saying that. Thank goodness!!! I thought maybe I was going senile at that point in the conversation with her.

My daughter was standing there trying not to laugh because the whole conversation was like being in the twilight zone.

I said “The front door still doesn’t lock” and she said “Oh yes – I think I remember my husband mentioning that to me.” (She thinks she remembers that – however, that was about a month ago also)

Now the issue has changed. It isn’t even with the things that are wrong, but with the fact that we can’t trust anything this woman says. My husband and I are the type of people who do what we say we are going to do and be where we say we are going to be. If something comes up, we call or at the very least, apologize later. We don’t just ignore the fact that we didn’t show up. We take people at their word because our word is good so we assume the word of others is good. That shouldn’t be a bad thing.

I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she’s going through the early stages of alzheimers or something like that. However, I’m still not comfortable staying here under the circumstances.

Needless to say, we ARE moving and everything happens for a reason.
