Success in a Tough Economy

HI - Nice to see you again. Have you sent any greeting cards recently?

custom greeting cards

We hear every day of people losing their jobs, their homes, their vehicles, and their hope.

Many people are turning to a home based business for help.  There are many things to keep in mind when you are looking for a home business.  One important thing is that there are a lot of scams out there.  The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) is cracking down on these scams, but there are so many of them, they can’t get to all of them.  What that means for you is that when you are looking – you will find a lot of these scams.  Here are some rules that the FTC has put in place to help us:

1.  We (advertisers of a business) must not make income claims.  If we insist on telling you (people looking for a business) that it’s possible to make $10,000 per month, we must also tell you that there are many, many people making a LOT less than that per month.  YOUR success or failure depends on what YOU put into the business.  You can NOT sign up, do nothing and get rich and we can’t claim that you can.

2.  The FTC is going to be looking at a thing we call autoship (AKA auto order, standing order, monthly insurance program, monthly required purchase).  They are going to look at the number of reps and see how many of those reps are purchasing just the required amount each month.  If the majority of reps are purchasing only the required amount and no more, the FTC is going to say that this proves that the product(s) are not something people would buy if there were no business opportunity attached.

Most of you know that I am a professional network marketer. I’ve done a lot of research the past few years and listened to a lot of the big income earners in this industry. One secret that I’ve learned is that in order to build a huge team of customers and business builders, you must have a product (or products) that need no explanation. For example, Avon is one of the largest network marketing companies there is. There is one simple reason for this. Look through an Avon catalog. Do you see any products in there that need videos, handout sheets, or presentations to explain them? Are there any products that people will say “Why in the world would I need that?” NO. They sell products that require no lengthy explanations and everyone knows what cosmetics, skin care, hair care, jewelry and all of the other things are. People buy these things anyway. They simply redirect money that they are spending now to a new store. That is why Avon has a high mix of customers and reps.

With the new FTC rulings, they are going to be looking at companies even closer. They want to know a few things. They want to know if the reps are buying more than their required autoship amount of product. They want to know if there are as many (if not more) “just customers” as there are reps. This is where having a competitively priced product is so very important.

After talking with and listening to many of these top income earners, they have all said the same thing. Having customers AND retaining them is the key to their success. The key is having a product that everyone purchases now and helping them get that product cheaper and of the same or better quality. That should not be hard for ANY network marketing company.

I have found a company just as I described. The products are something we all buy. We all use them. They require no special explanation. I don’t have to convince anyone that when they are living paycheck to paycheck that they have to spend money they don’t have on something new. I’ve already signed up product users because everyone uses these things anyway. Why wouldn’t someone want to spend less money to get products they use already?

Keeping In Touch with Family and Friends

handshakeKeeping in touch with family and friends is not as easy as you thought it would be – is it?  We grow up, get a job, maybe new friends and family, new relationships, and life just gets busy.  Who has time to sit and write letters on a regular basis to keep in touch?  Oh sure, there’s facebook and myspace and email, but it’s just not the same.  You can see that your friends are building huge farms and catching, buying and selling fish or maybe they are poking you, but it’s not special.  It’s not keeping in touch with YOU, it’s mass updating.

We’ve become so impersonal.  Mass updating.  What a concept.  When did keeping in touch begin to mean simply telling people what you are up to?  Don’t get me wrong – facebook and myspace are great and I’m just as guilty as the next person of not keeping in touch.  Life gets in the way sometimes.  A year or two ago I didn’t even send out Christmas cards because I got busy.  That’s really no excuse, but it happened.  At holiday time, most people generally grab a box of impersonal holiday cards and then spend hours signing and addressing them.  You know – you’ve given or gotten these cards.  The ones that are signed “The Smith Family” and stuck in an envelope and mailed out.

What if you could send your holiday cards right from your computer?  You could upload a photo or two or three and create a card that lets your friends and family know what has been going on over the past year.  Then, with just the touch of a button, you could send this highly personal, professional looking card to everyone on your list.   How special would you feel if you got a holiday card from a friend or family member with photos of them and a note updating you on their life over the past year?  I know that would make me feel special.

What about birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions?  What if you are having a stressful time and all of a sudden, a card comes in the mail.  It is from a friend and includes a personal note to you letting you know they are thinking of you.  This type of card is the best to get.  You feel special.  You feel loved.

What about Thank You cards?  Very few of us send them anymore.  Why?  Because we are too busy.  What if – in just a few short minutes – you could create a personalized thank you card to send to someone who helped you out?  What if you knew that after you created the card, all you had to do is click “Send” and the rest was done for you?  No buying stamps, no remembering to mail the card, no worries at all.

I just recently sent a Thank You card to someone who has helped me out a great deal over the past couple years.  I wrote a personal note inside the card and even sent some brownies with it.  All from the comfort of my own home.  I love this service because when I’m thinking about someone, I can send them a nice, heartfelt card and maybe a gift as well.  In the past, I would think about touching base with someone (saying thanks, hello or something) and then before I got to the store to grab a card, the thought was gone.  My mother used to tell me “It’s the thought that counts”, but I’m sure that’s not what she meant.   Now I can send a heartfelt card right from my own home.  No hassles.

YOU Are Perfect Just as You Are – Maybe

Almost 4 years ago, I met a man who became my “mentor”.  This man told me (and everyone else) “You are perfect just the way you are”.  Then he tried to mold me into the person he thought I should be.

Wait…you’re probably saying…but he said you are perfect just as you are.  Why would he try to change you?

One of the most deep seated human desires is the desire to belong.  There are people out there who prey on that desire to belong and provide a cult like atmosphere.  Unfortunately, cult members don’t know they are in a cult until something causes them to snap back into reality and they get out or someone/something intervenes and they are freed.  Once they are away from the cult for a time, they begin to see clearly.

These cult like groups are all over the internet.  They prey on the weak and defeated.  The first question they ask is “Are you struggling?”  They don’t want people who are having success on their team because they can’t manipulate and control those people.  When you decide to go out on your own and do some personal development, they get angry with you and accuse you of not “following the proven system”.  In reality, they want you to do just enough personal development to think you are doing better, but not so much that you really see what is going on.

How can you insulate yourself from these types of online cult-like groups?  Before you join any group, try to find people who have successfully broken free from them.  These people can let you know what life “on the inside” is like.  Beware of anyone who professes that you are perfect just as you are and then tries to change who you are.

I Am A Professional Network Marketer

I’ve had many people on social networking sites like myspace and facebook tell me that they don’t want to ever be involved in network marketing (AKA MLM). The reason is because they see all of the other MLMers on these sites. The majority of them are consumed with their businesses. Very few of them have ANY other interests (or at least they don’t tell you about any other interests). When people see that the life of most network marketers is consumed with business, they want no part of it. They feel that they will have to give up all of their interests to build their business.

Many of these network marketers have blogs and their blogs are all about MLM. There aren’t many network marketers who can blog about anything else. They are too hungry. They are so desperate for people that they have forgotten all about creating relationships first. It’s highly important to create real relationships with people and let them ask about your business. The network marketers out there who have no other interests and no life are the ones who are making no money. They feel that they constantly have to push their business or their coaching/mentoring on others because they are in the mode where they are so eager to build their businesses they forget that in order to let people really get to know them, they need to talk about more than MLM.

I’m not saying don’t talk about your business. If you are passionate about it and can really help people, you SHOULD talk about your business. However, there needs to be more to you as a person than just your business. Let others know who you are.

What are your interests outside of MLM? Are you a desperate network marketer? Have you become so consumed with trying to get people into your business that you forgot all about who you are? Get a life. It will help you build your business.

YOU Deserve Success!!
