Do You Have a Tight Grip On Your Life?

Posted by on August 2, 2010

cicadaI was driving home the other day and noticed this lime green bug with wings on the hood of the truck. He must have had some kind of sticky feet because he was near the middle of the hood holding on for dear life. Even when I got up to 60 mph, he hunkered down and held on tight. Even when I slowed to a stop, he repositioned himself to hunker down and hold on for dear life the next time I sped up.

Every time I stopped, I yelled “Just let go and fly, little buddy” but he didn’t. I guess bugs don’t understand English.

All he had to do was let go. Just fly away and he would be free. Did he do it? No. When I stopped in the driveway, he slowly crawled toward the front of the hood and hid under the bug deflector. A few hours later, I took my daughter to a job interview and there he was, STILL hiding behind the bug deflector. He rode all the way to her job interview and back home with us. Some time later that day he took off.

He wasted almost an entire day getting a better grip on the hood of the truck so he didn’t get blown off during the next trip. I believe this bug is a cicada. Cicadas live only a few years as a flying insect. The majority of their life is spent burrowed in the ground. So…he wasted a good portion of his short life hunkered down getting a better grip for the next “storm” in his life.

Are you simply continuing to reposition yourself for a better grip on the windy, chaos filled life you have now? All you have to do is let go and fly. Don’t be like this insect. What can you do today to spread your wings and fly and make a better life for yourself?

    Hi Roxxstarr

That’a a very interesting observation. Pretty amazing the things we can think, when we have open minds.

I think I need to get back to my blog.

    Have a great day!
