Is Your Skills About To Expire
HI - Nice to see you again. Have you sent any greeting cards recently?
That was the subject line of a spam email I received today.
Is Your Skills About To Expire???
And this email was for an online learning center. HELLO??? Do people honestly take these things seriously?
Here’s the deal – even if I were looking for an online learning center, I would NOT want to learn from anyone who asked me “Is your skills about to expire”.
Do people really fall for this garbage?
And don’t get me started on conversate. You are NOT conversating with anyone, you are conversing. You did not conversate with someone, you had a conversation.
I’m not perfect. I don’t always use the English language properly. I do, however, try to make sure I’m using proper grammar in most situations.
I remember when I was working in human resources and would have to interview people. Someone would call and say something like “I was conversating with Sally the other day and she said you are lookin to hire someone. I want the job”. My response? “I’m sorry – Sally must have been mistaken. We have no positions open right now.”
I’ve heard people talking and one will say something like “XYZ company isn’t hiring. They told me they don’t have no openings”. The next person says “That’s funny – I have an interview tomorrow”.
If you’re sitting home wondering why you can’t find a job, look at the way you speak. Look at the spelling on your job application. NO ONE expects you to be perfect, however, when you are looking for a job, put your BEST foot forward.
About 6 months ago I walked into a local business that apparently had run an ad in the paper for a receptionist. There were about 6 people in there filling out applications. I was talking with the office manager when one of the ladies came up to hand hers in. The office manager asked “Do you have a resume?” and the lady answered “No – I ain’t got no resume. I just filled out this here application. Do I need one of them resumes too?” The office manager answered “No – you don’t need a resume. Thank you.” After the woman left we had to go into another room because we were so scared that we would burst out laughing in front of everyone.
There was one girl in there in ripped jeans and a short shirt with belly button piercings. Now, there is NOTHING wrong with dressing that way – my daughter does (minus the belly button piercings). HOWEVER, if you are going to fill out a job application, put your best foot forward.
We are not supposed to do this, but most people do “judge a book by it’s cover”. We had judged the woman without a resume to be a descent candidate because she was nicely dressed. When she opened her mouth, we were oh so wrong. We judged the girl in ripped jeans not to be a descent candidate and she did not even get a chance to speak to the office manager.
This is the real world. People judge others based on a number of things. Know that going in and put your best foot forward.
YOU Deserve Success!!

Hi Roxanne,
Just like the real estate market, employers really have been put in much greater control of the interviewing process. And the interviewer’s perspective is, “I’d rather be doing something else”.
After all, who has the most to lose? The interviewer already has a job.
Thanks,
